Company Profile
Albemarle, headquartered in Richmond, Virginia, is a leading global producer of specialty chemicals for consumer electronics, pharmaceuticals, agricultural, automotive and industrial products; and construction and packaging materials. The Company's two business segments, Polymer Chemicals and Fine Chemicals - which includes custom manufacturing services for the life sciences market - serves customers in more than 80 countries, generating revenue of approximately $1 billion. Albemarle today has approximately 3,000 employees and has developed industry-leading positions in a number of end markets, including bromine and mineral-based flame retardants, aluminum alkyl catalysts and metallocene co-catalysts for polyolefins, bromine and bulk ibuprofen.
Our products rely on technologies as different from one another as alkylation, organometallic chemistry, halogenation, amination and carbonylation. Every Albemarle product relies on challenging chemistry or complex and difficult manufacturing processes.
Resin producers, compounders and processors around the world turn to Albemarle for chemicals and additives. Albemarle provides this highly diversified and demanding industry with coordination catalysts, flame retardants, curatives and antioxidants. These chemicals play a vital role in the manufacture of building materials, office equipment, consumer products and electronic equipment.
Albemarle also supplies fine and specialty chemicals to many of the leading producers of consumer products throughout the world. Complex, multi-step processes are Albemarle's core competence, and our analytical capabilities are state-of-the-art.
Albemarle Fine Chemistry Services and Intermediates serves as a single-source provider for life science customers interested in taking a product from R&D to commercial production. The company's cGMP kilo labs at Dayton, Ohio set the industry standard for manufacturing milligram to multi-kilo quantities. The cGMP pilot plant provides the equipment and scale-up expertise needed to develop and test manufacturing processes before moving into commercial production. And for projects requiring only a small quantity of final product, the pilot plant fills the gap between kilo lab and commercial-scale quantities.
Key personnel at all facilities take a team approach to their projects, working directly with the customer every step of the way. Multi-disciplined teams combine the expert chemistry, engineering, process development, safety and health expertise needed to ensure every project's success.
